Earlier this week, Prince William flew to Brazil to attend the COP30 climate summit. While there, he’ll announce the finalists for his Earthshot Prize. Awarded annually since 2021, the prize is given to five winners a year for achievements in environmentalism.
But when CNN reporter Christiane Amanpour asked a question about Andrew Mountbatten Windsor, the prince stuck to his subject matter.
Prince William expertly dodged a question about his uncle, the former Prince Andrew
It’s well known that William isn’t a fan of his uncle. In fact, according to Andrew Lownie’s recent book Entitled: The Rise and Fall of the Yorks, he avoids contact. “He has been at pains to distance himself from his uncle and not be photographed with him,” the book reads. William was reportedly “furious” when Andrew unexpectedly attended Katharine, Duchess of Kent’s funeral in September.
So when Christiane asked about Andrew losing his titles, William gracefully dodged the question. Not wanting to be sidetracked by his uncle’s problems, William gently directed the interview back to the subject at hand.
“I think the Earthshot Prize is a classic example of change. Rather than talk about it, we’re doing it. That’s where I want it to be,” the prince said at the awards in Rio de Janeiro on November 5. “These people in here are the true action heroes of all time. Change will come by backing them, not by what I do.”
According to Lownie’s biography, the feud between William and Andrew goes back to a “rude” comment his uncle once made about his wife Kate Middleton. “[William] believes his father has not dealt with him with sufficient firmness,” Lownie wrote. “Andrew — and Sarah Ferguson — have done much to undermine the good work of other members of the Royal Family.”
Furthermore, the author claims that the Prince of Wales “loathes” Andrew’s ex-wife and fully supported King Charles‘ decision to strip Andrew’s titles and evict him from his Royal Lodge home. Sarah’s titles were also stripped at the same time; however, their daughters Princess Beatrice and Princess Eugenie were allowed to retain theirs.
