There’s more to Alec Baldwin than what we see on screen.
A new documentary about the Emmy Award winning actor shares an emotional side of him. That’s according to the woman who made the documentary, Rory Kennedy. She says, “I think the film is a very intimate portrait and shows a very raw side of Alec.” The film discusses the shooting charges he faced in 2021 during filming for the movie Rust. Alec was charged with involuntary manslaughter.
During filming for the movie, Alec discharged a gun, inadvertently killing cinematographer Halyna Hutchins and injuring director Joel Souza.
Rory Kennedy is teasing her new documentary, The Trial of Alec Baldwin

The death of a crew member on the set of Rust left Alec very shaken and visibly upset. Rory says she admires him for being able to discuss it. “I think that he was extraordinarily … brave and courageous just to allow us to document him during this very tumultuous time,” she told People.
The daughter of the late Robert F. Kennedy adds that the film is a character portrait that examines what happens when social media and other chatter trickle into the justice system. The gun that Alec had during the accident was supposed to be a prop, containing live rounds when it went off.
Rory admits that initially, Alec was reluctant to take part in her documentary. For a deal to be reached, she says the actor couldn’t receive any financial compensation. She insists that her desire to do this documentary was in no way intended to undermine a tragedy. For her, it was about showing that there should be enough space to explore the fact that more than one tragedy can occur in situations like Alec’s.
Last year, the charges against the Academy Award-nominated actor were dropped. It was reported last week that he and his wife, Hilaria Baldwin, were in therapy, which has helped them work through many differences.
The Trial of Alec Baldwin premiered at the DOC New York City Film Festival on November 13.
