Prince Harry’s Team and Buckingham Palace Disagree on Major Detail

Prince Harry’s recent trip to Canada has apparently landed him in trouble with Buckingham Palace. Details of the Duke of Sussex’s visit have been disputed by palace aides … but his team have pushed back, according to reports.

Earlier this month, Harry headed to Toronto to kick off a tour centered around Remembrance Day commemorations. Remembrance Day is the British equivalent of Veterans Day in the US. Both are observed on November 11th each year.

The announcement of Harry’s trip coincided with Prince William’s visit to Brazil to mark COP26 and The Earthshot Prize. It’s this overlap that seems to be causing trouble between Harry and Buckingham Palace.

Per PEOPLE, Harry has an “olive branch” agreement to inform Buckingham Palace of his schedule. The agreement aims to provide transparency and help avoid conflicts between Harry’s outings and the Royal Family’s engagements. Why? Well, Harry is reportedly keen to show he isn’t overshadowing his royal relatives amid continued tensions.

Something seems to have gone amiss with the Duke’s trip to Canada, however. PEOPLE reported the trip caught aides by surprise, despite Harry’s team claiming it had informed Buckingham Palace “as a courtesy.”

In a statement later shared with the Daily Mail, Harry’s team argued there’s a reason his plans are announced much later than other royals. “[The Duke is] not afforded the same level of security and protection as other working members of the Royal Family,” his team said.

“It means, therefore, that the period of time in which we can release details of events is much more truncated than it is for His Majesty the King or the Prince of Wales,” the statement continued. “The events were planned nearly a year ago. The date of the main event is set by the charity, not Prince Harry.”
