Elon Musk calls out Jeff Bezos after his AI startup launch
Elon Musk throws shade at Jeff Bezos after his AI startup launch. On November 17, Sawyer Merritt tweeted, “NEWS: Jeff Bezos has created a new AI startup where he will be Co-CEO.” Continuing further, he wrote, “It’s called Project Prometheus and has received $6.2B in funding, some from Bezos himself. The startup is going to build AI products for engineering and manufacturing in fields like computers, aerospace, and automobiles.”
He also revealed that the company already has 100 staff members, including researchers from Meta, OpenAI, and Google DeepMind. To this, Musk quoted the tweet and wrote, “Copycat.”
Interestingly, this isn’t the first time Musk has taken a swipe at Bezos. Musk previously took a dig at Bezos when Amazon bought Zoox, a self-driving car startup, in competition with Musk’s Tesla (via NDTV).
Anonymous sources reveal to The New York Times that Bezos stepped in as the co-CEO of an AI startup called Project Prometheus. The new AI startup boasts $6.2 billion in funding, partly from Bezos himself. This makes it one of the most well-financed and expensive startups in history.
Previously, Bezos founded the private space technology company Blue Origin, which is in direct competition with Musk’s SpaceX. However, this is the first time in four years that Bezos has committed himself to a formal operational role in a company. Notably, he served as the CEO of Amazon before stepping down in July 2021.
There is little to no information available about Project Prometheus on public forums yet. According to The New York Times, it is unclear where this AI startup will be based. However, it aims to build and empower AI that will help in engineering and manufacturing in crucial fields such as computers, aerospace, and automobiles.
Furthermore, according to anonymous sources, Vik Bajaj serves as the co-founder and co-CEO of Project Prometheus alongside Bezos. Bajaj was previously affiliated with Google’s co-founder Sergey Brin at Google X and Foresite Labs.
According to the anonymous sources, Jeff Bezos has great ambitions to grow and expand Project Prometheus.
