Ja’Marr Chase gets suspended over spitting incident
The NFL has suspended Chase from appearing in a game over a spitting incident between him and Ramsey. During the Week 11 game, Chase and Ramsey engaged in a heated argument, which quickly turned physical. As they appeared to trade harsh words, they pressed their headgear together, and Chase grabbed Ramsey’s helmet. Chase also threw a punch before the other teammates gathered to separate the duo from being further violent.
Following the game, Ramsey was asked about the incident, in which he accused Chase of spitting on him. He told the reporters, “He spit on me. So, it’s up. I don’t give a f–k about football after that, respectfully.” Meanwhile, Chase clarified that he hadn’t spat on Ramsey during the heated exchange. Meanwhile, the videos from different angles circulating appear to tell a different story.
The incident led to Chase’s suspension, who won’t be able to play a game and won’t be paid either for the same. According to ESPN Senior NFL insider Adam Schefter on X (formerly Twitter), missing a game could cost Chase “his weekly paycheck of $448,333 along with a $58,823 per game active bonus.” The NFL cited the reason for Chase’s suspension as violating a sportsmanship rule. They described it as “any act that goes against the generally understood principles of sportsmanship.” According to multiple reports, Chase still has the right to appeal the suspension. The next match for the Bengals is against the New England Patriots.
