Andrew Garfield has opened up about his refusal to share his “private world.” Known for keeping his personal life tightly guarded, Garfield has shed some light on this stance in a recent interview.

Speaking with Vanity Fair for its latest Hollywood issue, Andrew Garfield got candid about why he refuses to talk about his dating life. The Oscar-nominated star has been romantically linked with actress Monica Barbaro since February. However, Garfield continues to keep their relationship away from the public eye, rarely offering any glimpse into their personal lives.
“It feels like a violation of my inner world, my private world,” Garfield explained. “I thought maybe that would soften at some point, but I’m very surprised to say that it hasn’t,” he added.
This isn’t the first time Garfield has explained his preference to maintain strict boundaries. In October 2024, he told Esquire, “I have never, and I won’t ever, speak about or confirm or deny anything about my personal life with anyone. Ever.”
Garfield and Barbaro first sparked romance rumors in February this year when fans spotted the couple enjoying a performance of Jonathan Bailey’s Richard II in London together. People later confirmed that they are officially dating and have been in a relationship. Apart from occasional appearances at public events, the couple maintains a relatively low profile.
Garfield and Barbaro will share the screen for the first time in Luca Guadagnino’s upcoming biographical drama film, Artificial. The movie centers on OpenAI’s removal of Sam Altman as the CEO in 2023.
Artificial stars Garfield as Altman, alongside Barbaro as Mira Murati, the former Chief Technology Officer at OpenAI. Other cast members include Yura Borisov, Cooper Koch, Cooper Hoffman, Ike Barinholtz, and Jason Schwartzman. The movie recently wrapped filming in October and has yet to confirm a release window.
