Jeff Bezos and Lauren Sanchez Bezos are set to play a major role in fashion’s biggest night. The couple has been announced as the primary financial backers of the 2026 Met Gala. Additionally, the star-studded event will introduce a new leadership era for Vogue and a new exhibition at the Metropolitan Museum of Art.
Jeff Bezos and Lauren Sanchez Bezos will be funding Met Gala 2026
The Met Gala is preparing for a milestone year in 2026, and Jeff Bezos and Lauren Sanchez Bezos will be at the center of it. On Monday, Vogue confirmed that the pair will serve as the lead donors underwriting the event, which will support the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Costume Institute. While Saint Laurent and Condé Nast will also contribute to the fundraiser, the Bezos couple will assume the primary financial role.
The 2026 gala will align with the upcoming exhibition titled “Costume Art.” It will reportedly open on May 10, 2026, and run through January 10, 2027. Details of the exhibition have not yet been fully revealed. Nonetheless, it promises to spotlight the craftsmanship, history, and creative evolution of costume design.
The timing of the gala also marks another significant shift. It will be the first Met Gala overseen by Vogue’s new Editor-in-Chief, Chloe Malle, who succeeded Anna Wintour after her nearly four decades of leadership.
Bezos and Sanchez Bezos have become regular fixtures at major fashion and cultural events. However, their involvement in 2026 will be their most influential yet. The couple first attended the Met Gala together in 2024. They appeared on the red carpet under the “Garden of Time” dress code. Sanchez Bezos wore a striking Oscar de la Renta gown featuring a floral, glass-like motif. What’s more, her dress was inspired by the work of Louis Comfort Tiffany. Meanwhile, Bezos opted for a classic black tuxedo. Their appearance drew wide attention at the time and offered an early hint at their budding interest in fashion philanthropy.
