Jeff Bezos to Play Major Role in Met Gala 2026

The Met Gala has always been the venue where fashion, celebrity energy, and star power converge. Still, the 2026 edition is already leveling up, thanks to Jeff Bezos and Lauren Sánchez Bezos.

The power couple, now red carpet regulars, are taking major behind-the-scenes roles for next year’s event.

Bezos and Sánchez Bezos were officially revealed on Nov. 17 as the main donors for the 2026 Met Gala. Vogue confirmed that next year’s theme is “Costume Art,” which ties into a new exhibition at the Met in New York City.

With their major contributions, the power couple is now part of the planning team and is helping bankroll the operation. Jeff Bezos and Sánchez are not the only major contributors. Saint Laurent and Condé Nast are likewise contributing to next year’s gala and the accompanying exhibition.

The showcase opens on May 10, 2026, and runs through Jan. 10, 2027, celebrating the craft and evolution of costume design.

As always, the proceeds will go straight to the Met’s Costume Institute, keeping the night both star-studded and mission-focused. This year’s Met Gala is also an important juncture for Vogue’s new editor-in-chief, Chloe Malle. She’s just taken over after Anna Wintour’s massive 37-year run.

Bezos and Sánchez Bezos first blessed the Met Gala carpet as a duo in 2024 during the “Garden of Time” theme. She wowed in a custom Oscar de la Renta gown inspired by Louis Comfort Tiffany’s glasswork, while Bezos chose a classic black tux.

The couple first went public in early 2019, just before Bezos finalized his split from MacKenzie Scott and Sánchez Bezos wrapped up her divorce from Patrick Whitesell. Their bond grew slowly as they worked on projects together.

Fast forward a few years, and they’ve become one of the most high-profile couples on the gala scene. And taking on a bigger role in 2026 proves just how far they have come.
