LeBron James Details Why He Doesn’t Talk to His Son

LeBron James recently discussed why he doesn’t talk to his 21-year-old son, Bronny James, as much these days. After the Los Angeles Lakers’ win over the Utah Jazz on November 18, the NBA legend opened up about what life has been like now that his eldest son lives on his own.

LeBron James claims he doesn’t talk to his son

In his record-breaking 23rd NBA season, LeBron James took a moment to reflect on his son’s development both on and off the court. The 40-year-old star talked about watching Bronny grow since joining the Lakers in 2024.

When asked about Bronny’s progression, LeBron said, “It’s been great to see and to watch,” adding that he is “still young” after turning 21 “not too long ago” on October 6. LeBron emphasized how much his son continues to improve, saying Bronny is “still learning and still getting better with each and every rep” and that he believes his son is “enjoying the process.”

He further added, “You can ask him more than me… He’s not a resident anymore, so we don’t talk as much.” The reason? Bronny officially moved out. “He has his own place, so… But, he’s great,” LeBron added before spotting Bronny across the locker room and calling out, “Bronny, how are you?” The father-son dynamic has naturally shifted now that his son is living independently while playing his first full NBA season.

Bronny being drafted by the Lakers fulfilled a long-discussed dream that LeBron often mentioned before his son entered the league. With Bronny drafted in 2024 and making his debut last season, the James family now has its first-ever father-son duo sharing an NBA court. LeBron’s second son, 18-year-old Bryce James, is currently a freshman at the University of Arizona. However, LeBron made it clear he isn’t delaying retirement just to share the court with another one of his children.
