Matt Damon Says Tom Holland Requested This While Filming The Odyssey

In a recent interview about Christopher Nolan’s upcoming film, The Odyssey, actor Matt Damon recalled a small but telling moment that shows just how much clout Tom Holland has at Sony. One time, he called the company’s head and arranged for something for the entire cast and crew. Damon shared that the favor came through immediately, pleasantly surprising him.

The Academy Award winner recently mentioned an incident when the Spider-Man: Homecoming star just called Sony Pictures’ Chairperson, Tom Rothman, one day.

According to Matt Damon, Tom Holland requested a rare 70mm screening of Lawrence of Arabia for the cast of their upcoming film, The Odyssey. This was a full four-hour print, and Rothman entertained the request on a Sunday, which shocked Damon because of its promptness. The cast then got to sit through the entire classic the way it was meant to be seen.

As per @NolanAnalyst on X (formerly Twitter), the Oppenheimer star shared the story in Empire Magazine’s latest issue. He stated, “We were at Sony, and [studio head] Tom Rothman has one of the pristine 70-mil prints of that movie. And Tom Holland, because he’s Spider-Man and he’s everybody’s favorite at that studio, called Rothman, and he arranged for us to screen it on a Sunday, the full four hours.”

Unsurprisingly, this anecdote shared by Matt Damon showed everybody else the amount of influence that Tom Holland has at the studio. Moreover, Tom Rothman has publicly backed the Uncharted actor for years now. Notably, his Spider-Man movies have also brought a lot of success to the studio.

The Sony Pictures executive has also praised the 29-year-old’s take on the web-slinging hero as the version audiences connect with the most. Rothman once told IGN, “This is it. This is that character in all of its youthful complications and ‘I have to save the world and get my chemistry homework done.’”

Meanwhile, Tom Holland and Matt Damon will next appear in Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey. The film will arrive in US theaters on July 16, 2026.
