Vin Diesel’s Sexual Battery Case Gets An Important Update

A Los Angeles judge has dismissed the remaining claims in a sexual battery lawsuit filed against Vin Diesel. The ruling concluded that California courts lack jurisdiction over allegations from an incident said to have occurred in Atlanta during the 2010 production of Fast Five. The ruling brings the two-year case to a halt.

Vin Diesel’s case gets dismissed

A sexual battery case against Vin Diesel came to an end this week after a Los Angeles judge dismissed the final remaining claims filed by the actor’s former assistant, Asta Jonasson. The decision, issued on Wednesday, concluded that California courts do not have jurisdiction over allegations tied to an incident that allegedly occurred in Georgia during the 2010 production of Fast Five.

Jonasson filed the suit in 2023, accusing Diesel of sexually assaulting her in his Atlanta hotel suite and terminating her employment shortly afterward. According to her complaint, she worked for the actor for just nine days before being dismissed. The lawsuit outlined ten claims, including sexual battery, harassment, and retaliation. Earlier this year, Judge Daniel M. Crowley had already struck down four of those claims on statute-of-limitations grounds. His latest ruling eliminated the remaining six, citing legal limitations.

In his written decision, Crowley emphasized that the alleged conduct occurred entirely in Atlanta, making California’s statutes inapplicable. The judge ruled that the plaintiff’s causes of action “fail sas a matter of law.”

Jonasson’s attorneys announced that they intend to appeal the ruling. Her legal team stated, “The Court did not decide anything about the truth of Ms. Jonasson’s allegations. The ruling was based on a legal technicality, with which we respectfully disagree. Ms. Jonasson intends to appeal.” (via Variety)

Diesel’s lawyer, Bryan Freedman, said, “We are grateful that the court put an end to this meritless lawsuit. We are pleased that this matter has been resolved entirely.”
