Jeff Bezos and his wife, Lauren Sánchez Bezos, who are sponsoring the Met Gala 2026, have sparked an online debate among netizens. The couple will be heavily involved behind the scenes of the high-profile fashion event. Previously, Met’s official Instagram handle confirmed that the Bezos couple’s announcement as the primary donors funding the Met Gala 2026.
Internet not happy with Jeff Bezos and Lauren Sanchez sponsoring the Met Gala 2026
The internet is unhappy with Jeff Bezos and his wife, Lauren Sánchez Bezos, sponsoring the Met Gala 2026. The Met’s official Instagram handle shared a brief video announcing that the theme for next year’s event is “Costume Art.” Towards the end, the video says, “The exhibition is made possible by Jeff Bezos and Lauren Sánchez Bezos. Additional support provided by Saint Laurent and Condé Nast.”
The Amazon founder and his wife’s involvement in the upcoming Met Gala has displeased the internet. One user commented, “The most excited I have ever been for a MET… until ‘sponsored by Bezos’ appears.” Another user wrote sarcastically, “Bezos? The one who just laid off 30,000 workers right before Christmas? But money for a museum exhibit…?”
A third user penned a lengthy comment: “Great theme; however, stop platforming Jeff Bezos and Lauren Sánchez with art and fashion, two places that these two awful, unfettered capitalists will never belong in, no matter how much money they want to throw around to buy culture they have never cultivated and will never inhabit.”
Finally, one user chimed in, “Bezos is literally the anti-artist. He is everything opposite of what art stands for. Gross.”
Notably, the Bezos couple first attended the Met Gala together in 2024. The exhibition that year was titled “Sleeping Beauties: Reawakening Fashion,” and the dress code was “The Garden of Time” (via Vogue).
The couple twinned in monochrome looks at the Met Gala 2024 on May 6. Sánchez modeled a gorgeous custom Oscar de la Renta gown paired with a floral “shattered glass” skirt. Meanwhile, the 61-year-old donned a chic black tuxedo with a bow tie. At the time, the wifey gushed to Vogue that her “best accessory” is, in fact, Bezos.
The Costume Art exhibition opens on May 10, 2026, and runs through January 10, 2027.
