Mexico is once again at the top of the beauty pageant world. Fátima Bosch made news in early November for standing up to a Miss Universe executive in a pre-pageant event in Thailand. The moment was captured on a live stream. The heated confrontation allegedly all started when rumors surfaced that Fátima wouldn’t be taking part in a pre-pageant photo shoot.
Executive Nawat Itsaragrisil called her out in public upon hearing this speculation. Fátima refused to back down, calling him out in interviews afterwards, saying Nawat was disrespectful and called her a dummy.
Weeks later, Miss Mexico has conquered the world of pageantry by winning the title of Miss Mexico.
Miss Mexico is Miss Universe 2025
She may have been the subject of controversy with the higher-ups in the Miss Universe world, but Miss Mexico is getting the last laugh. Fátima beat out contestants from more than 130 countries to claim the crown on Thursday.
Miss Mexico’s firm stance on her treatment though wasn’t the only scandal the competition faced. Days before the big event, Omar Harfouch, a judge who was a part of the Miss Universe selection committee, resigned. He claims that he learned of an impromptu jury, which led him to quit.
The Miss Universe organization denied Omar’s allegations in a statement. They said that all the competition evaluations follow the established, transparent and supervised protocols.
On the same day as that statement, former French football player Claude Makélélé resigned as a judge for personal reasons. The following day, Princess Camilla di Borbone delle Due Sicilie, the President of the Miss Universe selection committee, followed suit.
While the intense livestream confrontation between Miss Mexico and Nawat was anything but comfortable, Fátima said she’s glad it was shown because “we are empowered women.”
The theme for the 74th Miss Universe final was The Power of Love. Fatima is the fourth Mexican to take home the Miss Universe crown.
