Internet Compares Jonathan Bailey to Ryan Reynolds for a Reason

Jonathan Bailey’s appearance in Wicked: For Good has fans drawing comparisons between him and Ryan Reynolds. In the film’s closing moments, the actor’s character, Prince Fiyero, turns into the straw-stuffed scarecrow.

Bailey reprises the role of Prince Fiyero in the sequel to the hit original movie Wicked from 2024 alongside other returning stars such as Ariana Grande, Cynthia Erivo, Michelle Yeoh, and Jeff Goldblum, among others. The film’s story adapts the second half of the acclaimed stage musical Wicked, which first premiered on Broadway in 2003.

Wicked fans see a resemblance between Jonathan Bailey and Ryan Reynolds

In posts and comments online, fans were quick to point out the likeness between Jonathan Bailey and Ryan Reynolds in Wicked: For Good. One user posted, “Why does Jonathan Bailey as Scarecrow look like Ryan Reynolds…we need to open an investigation.” Another wrote, “The resemblance is uncanny,” while another posted, “You’re telling me this ISN’T Ryan Reynolds.”

The reactions to the scene online have shown a mix of humor and surprise among fans. However, not everyone loved the Scarecrow’s design. A number of fans posted about their disappointment with the makeup and prosthetic choices. A user wrote on X, “My only BIG complaint (rest are nitpicking) is how Fiyero looks as the Scarecrow. I don’t know if anybody was thinking when making his face makeup.”

These online reactions come after Wicked: For Good generated very strong opening numbers at the worldwide box office. The scarecrow design used for Jonathan Bailey’s character has added fuel to the ongoing conversation about casting and effects. Despite some criticism, the film has also received strong reviews from both critics and fans alike, and opened to even larger numbers than its predecessor, adding to expectations for it to become one of the highest-grossing films of the year.
