Kevin Spacey clears the air after ‘homeless’ comment
Kevin Spacey has released a clarification after recent headlines implied that the actor was homeless. The speculation began following his recent interview with The Telegraph, in which he mentioned spending long periods “living in hotels” and “living in Airbnbs” and said he “literally” has “no home.”
In a video posted to Instagram on Sunday, Spacey addressed the situation directly and focused his message on those who reached out to him personally. “I am truly touched by your generosity, full stop,” he said. The actor noted that “thousands of people” had contacted him to offer help or check on his well-being. Spacey stressed that “it would be disingenuous of me to allow you to believe that I am indeed homeless in the colloquial sense.”
Spacey noted that he has been working “nearly non-stop this entire year” and expressed appreciation for the professional opportunities he has received. He also acknowledged the seriousness of real financial hardship. The House of Cards star said, “And there are many people, as we all know, who are indeed actually living on the streets, or in their cars, or in terrible financial situations, and my heart goes out to them.”
Spacey added, “But it is clear from the article itself that I am not one of them, nor was I attempting to say that I was.” Spacey addressed the origin of the rumor, saying that he respected journalist Mick Brown, who conducted the interview. However, he criticized the way The Telegraph ultimately framed the story. He described the headline as “knowingly misleading” and suggested that it had been written “for the sake of clicks.”
Spacey ended his statement by thanking the public for their concern and support.
