Jason Kelce Dismisses Travis Kelce’s Jersey Number Story: ‘Load of S***’

Jason Kelce does not approve of Travis Kelce’s jersey number story. On November 24, the brothers hosted popular sports commentators and TV personalities Erin Andrews and Charissa Thompson on the New Heights podcast. The quartet discussed their demanding careers, more women in sports, and the holiday season.

Jason Kelce has this to say about Travis Kelce’s emotional jersey number story

Jason dismissed brother Travis Kelce’s emotional jersey number story as “s***.” On the latest episode of the New Heights podcast, Travis revealed how Jason is instrumental in his NFL career. However, Jason brushed it off as “s***.”

Travis asked Andrews and Thompson, “You guys have interviewed both me and Jason. Who is the better interviewee?” Thompson answered, “Well, I had the great privilege of interviewing you both at the same time. I don’t know when this was. This was like ten lifetimes ago.”

She continued, “We were by your old high school and that’s when I learned, Travis, that you wear number 87 because of Jason.” Travis interjected, “Oh yeah.” Jason instantly remarked, “Don’t let him tell you this. That’s the biggest load of bull****. You did not pick that number because of that. You have somehow retroactively worked this in. There’s no way.” Thompson and Andrews laughed, enjoying the banter between the brothers.

Travis narrated, “It was the only number that I had a connection to. We went over this in the interview.” The episode then cuts to the clip being referenced in the podcast.

Andrews asks Travis in the throwback interview, “You wear 87 because of him?” Travis explains, “It all started in 1987, because this big guy was born in 1987,” and the clip cuts back to the present. Travis quips, “And that’s how it all started. Without Jason, I wouldn’t be where I’m today. Now say it back, Jason.”

The Kelce brothers casually brushed off the emotional jersey number story. However, there is a sweet reason behind Travis’ decision to don an 87 number jersey.

Back in the day, the Chiefs tight end tested positive for marijuana while in college. The college football team promptly removed from the team. Big brother Jason stepped in to save Travis’ sports career and even put his own name in line for his brother’s sake. Touched by his brother’s gesture, Travis dons an 87 jersey, which is Jason’s birth year.
