Nicole Kidman Says Daughters ‘Shrug Off’ Social Media Negativity

These days, kids and adults alike are all up on social media, but Nicole Kidman says her daughters just “shrug it off.” Kidman has spent decades in Hollywood living under public scrutiny. Still, when it comes to her teenage daughters, the Oscar-winner says they are far better equipped to handle the digital world than she ever was.

Kidman’s reflections in an interview show that even Hollywood’s biggest stars share the same worries as any parent navigating the chaos of the digital age.

Nicole Kidman says daughters ‘have an armor’ to protect themselves from social media

In a new conversation with Ariana Grande for Interview Magazine, Nicole Kidman opened up about what it is like raising her two teenage daughters, Sunday Rose and Faith Margaret, in an era where kids are all about social media. The actor admitted that online criticism can be difficult for anyone in the spotlight. However, her girls approach it with a kind of resilience she deeply admires.

Kidman told Grande, “I’m raising teenage girls right now, and it’s fascinating.” She added, “I think they have an armor that we didn’t get,” reflecting on how younger generations have adapted to the constant presence of social media. The 58-year-old said, “The very, very young now have already gone, ‘We know exactly how to handle this.’ They don’t take a lot of things personally. They shrug it off.”

According to Kidman, the ability to “shrug it off” is not just a survival skill — it is something she wishes she had when she was their age. As someone who came of age without the internet, she has witnessed firsthand how challenging it can be for public figures to face constant judgment in today’s climate. But Nicole Kidman credits her daughters’ ability to use social media as a sign that the next generation may be learning to stay grounded despite it all.
