Simon Cowell won’t accept responsibility for the death of Liam Payne. The America’s Got Talent judge has been the subject of widespread criticism since the One Direction singer died in 2024. Simon was responsible for the formation of the boy band, signing Liam and the group to his record label years ago.
Some people believe the record executive is partly to blame for Liam going into a downward spiral before his death. Simon, though, says he doesn’t read any publications about his and Liam’s death for his own well-being.
Liam was found dead on a hotel balcony in Argentina in October of last year.
Simon Cowell spoke about Liam Payne’s death in a new interview

It’s been over a year since Liam’s tragic death. While he doesn’t bear any responsibility for what occurred, Simon admits that he still feels his loss. In an interview with Rolling Stone, the music mogul opened up about the last time he saw Liam. “I remember saying, ‘Music is not everything. Don’t let it run your life anymore,” Simon recalled. According to him, Liam appeared to be “in a really good place” when Simon saw him a year before his death.
Simon went on to say that he had recently spoken to his parents, who had told him how incredibly proud they were of him and of what he had achieved.
Liam reportedly wasn’t doing great before his death, behaving, by many people’s estimation, very erratically. A hotel staff member in Buenos Aires admitted to giving the singer cocaine before he died.
Kate Cassidy, who had been dating Liam before his death, admits she was in a dark place for a long time. She recently said that she’s “open to dating again.”
Before his untimely tragedy, Liam had been confirmed as a judge on the Netflix talent competition Building The Band.
