George Clooney shares why he’s not on social media
George Clooney, when asked why he is not on X (formerly Twitter), replied by saying, “You know, I’m not on Twitter or Instagram or any of that bulls**t because … I drink. You know, 3 a.m., my Mother Teresa joke might not play so well when I wake up the next day.” (via Variety)
He went on to note that in the current media climate, a single offhand comment or interview can have real professional consequences. “Every opportunity to have an interview or to have a conversation could result in the end of your career,” he said.
The “Ocean’s Eleven” star also talked about his various film projects and personal life. One of the significant projects from his career so far that he talked about was “Goodnight, Good Luck.” Speaking about the film and how he was inspired to make it due to the events surrounding the war in Iraq that was going on at the time, Clooney called the time period “a pretty shameful moment in our history when the three branches of government – the judicial, the executive, and the legislative branches – all failed in their job.”
Furthermore, he added, “The Fourth Estate, meaning journalism, has the responsibility to question authority, has to, and when it doesn’t – it didn’t, and it failed – we end up in a war in Iraq, a war of choice.”
