Imane Anys, aka Pokimane, shook up fans after she bought herself an engagement ring, and the internet went wild. The Canadian streamer, famous on Twitch and social media, said she got tired of waiting for a proposal and decided to pop the question to herself.
Pokimane buying an engagement ring has fans talking
Pokimane broke the news on TikTok, saying fans had inspired her to buy a ring for herself after reacting to an earlier video.
“The person that you are ‘engaged to’ the most in your entire lifetime is your damn self,” she said. Her new bling comes from Bulgari’s Serpenti collection, a one-coil white gold band decked out with diamonds.
The announcement got fans buzzing online. On TikTok, plenty cheered her for promoting self-love and girl power. One user said, “This is what she loves about women’s empowerment,” while another inspired others to go out and their their own ring. Another user asked fellow fans to take care of themselves and make themselves as happy as they can.
Not everyone, however, supported what Pokimane did, though. On X (formerly Twitter), some people called the move distasteful. Podcaster and streamer Keemstar dubbed it “cringe,” while others roasted the idea of buying your own engagement ring. One user wrote, “How desperate do you have to be to post something like this?”
This isn’t the first time Pokimane became the talk of the town for her unique antics. Back in 2022, Twitch gave her a 48-hour ban after she streamed TV episodes without the proper licensing. She’s also faced call-outs for misusing slang, including controversy over AAVE, and a short viral clip where she joked, “women belong in the kitchen,” which she later apologized for.
More recently, in late 2023, she caught flak over her snack brand when she called her own viewers “broke.”
