A former pro boxer has slammed the Jake Paul vs. Anthony Joshua fight slated for December 19. David Haye, who is a former world champion, delivered a blunt warning this week about the fight that is scheduled to take place in Miami. The former boxer questioned why the fight is even being allowed to happen because Joshua, who is a skilled and vastly experienced athlete, is in a very different league from Paul, who is a YouTuber-turned-boxer.
David Haye says Anthony Joshua will ‘damage’ Jake Paul
During an interview, David Haye commented on the Jake Paul vs. Anthony Joshua fight. He said, “They’re a completely different specimen. You’ll see what he looks like when they stand next to each other. Anthony Joshua’s not a bodybuilder. He’s a prime athlete. He’s someone who has dedicated his life to this. He lives this. He doesn’t drink, doesn’t smoke. He’s a real clean athlete who is going to inflict some horrendous damage to Jake Paul.” (via Sky News Sports)
Haye did not mince his words when describing the possible consequences of the fight. He expressed, “I hope we’ve got a referee in there who is quite compassionate because if Jake Paul is left up against the ropes, advantage Joshua unloading on him. It could be the end, literally; it could be his last day on Earth.”
Haye has his reservations about the Jake Paul vs Anthony Joshua fight being sanctioned in the first place. He argued that commissions exist to protect fighters and expressed that commercial upside for everyone involved may have outweighed safety considerations.
Haye is not the only analyst who has voiced their skepticism about the fight. Even UFC commentator Joe Rogan has called the matchup, “one of the craziest propositions of all time.” He warned that Joshua is a “one-punch nuclear power” and a specialist at finishing fights.
