Katy Perry has reportedly filed a $5 million lawsuit against 85-year-old disabled veteran Carl Westcott over a long-standing property dispute. Westcott previously owned the $15 million Montecito, California, home she purchased more than five years ago. Notably, Perry and Orlando Bloom had purchased the home when she was pregnant with their daughter, Daisy Dove.

Katy Perry sues an 85-year-old disabled man over a long-standing property dispute. The long-running housing dispute began in July 2020. At the time, Perry and her ex-partner Bloom bid for the eight-bedroom estate from Westcott.
The couple was expecting their first child together at the time, and reportedly believed that the beautiful estate was the perfect home to raise their family. (via The New York Post)
Westcott initially agreed and sold the lavish estate to Perry and Bloom. However, within days of the sale, he sought to withdraw from the deal. He argued that he lacked the mental capacity to fully understand the contract because he was under immense pain and duress following his back surgery.
In December 2023, a local judge ruled in the pop star’s favour. The judge reasoned that Westcott’s evidence was unconvincing and lacked any indication that he did not consent to the property’s sale. Perry’s lawyer also revealed that Westcott had a backup offer from Maria Shriver, Arnold Schwarzenegger’s former wife.
The “Roar” singer counter-sued Westcott for $3.25 million, claiming she had incurred losses from being unable to lease the property. Additionally, she sued him for $2.2 million for alleged repair work and another $3 million in legal costs.
Currently, Westcott is suffering from Huntington’s disease and is bedridden in a hospice. His son, Court Westcott, has alleged that the ongoing legal battle with Perry has caused his father a lot of trauma and that a formal apology is desired.
However, Perry is now demanding $5 million to account for damages she says Westcott caused with extended litigation over the property sale.
Now, in a new update, a California court has ruled in Perry’s favor. The court has reportedly instructed that Westcott pay $1.8 million in damages over the property dispute. (via PEOPLE)
