Hugh Jackman snuck in a playful jab at Ryan Reynolds while accepting the Gotham Musical Tribute, along with Kate Hudson, for their performance in the new film Song Sung Blue.
The actors grooved to Neil Diamond’s evergreen hit “Sweet Caroline” as they made their way to the stage. Hudson began the acceptance speech with a shout-out to her costar Jackman and their director Craig Brewer, stating that working with them was “one of the great joys of my career.” She further reflected on the impact of music in her life, sharing, “I don’t know where I’d be without it.”
Jackman had the microphone next, and he followed with a humorous swipe at Reynolds. The Greatest Showman star joked that the award was “something to make Ryan Reynolds insanely jealous.” Shifting to a more serious note, he then highlighted the movie’s message about “real people, real lives, real struggles, real love.”
Jackman went on to praise Hudson, declaring that she is “not only one of the great stars of our business,” but also “a consummate actor.” The actor concluded by predicting that Hudson will soon be an Oscar winner for the role. (US Weekly)
Song Sung Blue is a biographical musical drama that centers on Mike (Hugh Jackman) and Claire Sardina (Kate Hudson), a Neil Diamond tribute duo known as Lightning & Thunder. The movie is based on the 2008 documentary film of the same name by Greg Kohs.
