Hoda Kotb Could Replace a Huge Daytime Star — Source

Sources have recently claimed that CBS executives are exploring Hoda Kotb for their new show. She is being considered as a potential successor to Gayle King, whose daytime prominence is reportedly “dimming.” The discussions come amid internal changes that recently included the departure of veteran anchor John Dickerson from the Tiffany Network.

CBS executives are reportedly evaluating Hoda Kotb as a potential replacement for Gayle King as the network undergoes significant internal shifts, according to RadarOnline. The interest in Kotb follows recent changes at the network, including the exit of longtime anchor John Dickerson. One insider alleged that Dickerson “didn’t quit” and that “he was pushed,” suggesting his departure reflected broader restructuring efforts.

Sources claim that CBS News’ new editor-in-chief, Bari Weiss, is quietly considering Kotb for a leading role on “CBS Mornings” as King’s contract approaches its 2026 expiration. A senior network figure said CBS is determined to move beyond its current third-place standing, explaining that Weiss wants a prominent personality who can bring “warmth, credibility — and viewers,” adding that Kotb “checks every box.”

Moreover, Kotb is reportedly reevaluating her career path after leaving the “Today” show earlier this year to launch a wellness-focused brand that has struggled to gain traction. One source said she now sees that her strength is in morning television. The insider explained that “Hoda is morning TV,” and viewers link her to familiarity and comfort.

Sources also said Weiss is actively courting Kotb and wants to make her “central to CBS Mornings.” A rival executive added that the move would give Kotb rare prominence. She would be “the star,” and she would no longer share the spotlight with other major cohosts. Additionally, multiple sources said Kotb’s current NBC contract may not be a major barrier. They described it as “nowhere near ironclad,” leaving the door open for a possible transition to CBS.
