Jane Carter apparently wants a piece of her grandson’s fortune. That’s the allegation Melanie Martin is throwing out there against the mother of her late fiancé, Aaron Carter.
Melanie and Aaron had a son, Prince, who was born during their engagement in November 2021. When the former Backstreet Boys singer died, Prince became the sole beneficiary of his money, seeing as he wasn’t married. Jane is reportedly fighting to get some of that inheritance, though, according to Melanie.
Aaron died in early November 2022, with his death deemed an accidental drowning.

Aaron’s fiancée is doing what she can to prevent the late pop star’s mother from getting Prince’s money. On Facebook, Wednesday, Melanie said she’ll be bartending and working on Love Merch “to pay for all the court fees and ensure my son gets Aaron’s rightful inheritance.” Love Merch is an apparel and beauty website made in honor of the late singer.
Jane has had previous run-ins with the law. In 2023, she was arrested for domestic battery after allegedly drinking with an adult family member. Things reportedly became physical after a verbal argument. In the mid-2000s, Jane was Aaron’s manager. Aaron previously accused his mother of stealing $100,000 from him around that time. She denied the allegation, and the matter was settled weeks later.
The Carter family have been through their share of tragedies, not only with Aaron’s death. Aaron’s sister Leslie died of a drug overdose in 2012. Another sister, Bobbie Jean, died two years ago of intoxication. This was from the effects of fentanyl and methamphetamine. This year, the documentary The Carters: Hurts to Love You came out, discussing the heartache the family has endured. Prince made his red-carpet debut ahead of that screening.
Aaron’s was a part of the Backstreet Boys, one of the biggest boy bands in the 90s. One of his former bandmates, AJ McLean, got some online love from pop icon Taylor Swift in an Instagram video mashup he did in October.
The two-part documentary The Carters: Hurts to Love You came out on Paramount+ in April.
