Diddy’s Childhood Friend Makes Bold Claim About Rapper’s Mom

The Netflix docuseries Sean Combs: The Reckoning reveals more details about Sean “Diddy” Combs’ challenging upbringing.  The four-part show includes footage with Diddy’s mom Janice Combs.

Footage has the hip hop mogul’s childhood friend and neighbor Tim Patterson alleging Janice hit Diddy repeatedly over time. “It wasn’t a joking thing,” Tim said. “D*mn, I hate thinking about that, man.”

The show footage from 2010 includes an interview with Janice on her son’s Inside the Actors Studio appearance. She talks about toughening up Diddy with “a lot of beatings.”

Tim also talks about how the disgraced Bad Boy Records founder’s lifestyle of constant parties and prostitution was in response to Janice’s parenting. “In Sean’s household, you’d start to see all the stuff you saw in the movies,” Tim said.

This alleged violence wasn’t limited to Diddy’s beatings by his mother. His former friend Kirk Burrowes claims he slapped his mother in 1991. This alleged violence occurred following Diddy’s celebrity basketball game at Harlem’s City College of New York. A stampede at the event killed nine people.

At that time, Diddy was just beginning his career. Kirk said, “He didn’t know what was going to happen. And I saw Janice question Sean. He’s going into this music business thing. He just left school and now this extreme tragedy has occurred. She’s like, ‘Did he make the right decision?’ And I saw him put his hands on her, call her a b*tch and slapped her. He’s not looking back.”

A rep for Sean “Diddy” Combs claimed Sean Combs: The Reckoning was “a shameful hit piece.” In its statement to Netflix, Diddy’s rep claimed, “Mr. Combs has been amassing footage since he was 19 to tell his own story, in his own way. It is fundamentally unfair, and illegal, for Netflix to misappropriate that work.

The docuseries’ director, Alexandria Stapleton, says she legally acquired the Diddy footage.

Convicted on two charges of transportation to engage in prostitution, Diddy is serving a 50-month prison sentence.
