James Wan Resurrects ‘Paranormal Activity’ for New Blumhouse Movie

James Wan, the name behind The Conjuring and Insidious film series, is all set to bring back “Paranormal Activity” in a new Blumhouse film. Wan is officially on board to produce a new film in the famed Paranormal Activity franchise alongside Blumhouse–Atomic Monster. The unnamed film will be a sequel to the 2021 horror film Paranormal Activity: Next of Kin.

Blumhouse and Atomic Monster merged last year, although they continue to operate as separate entities. However, Wan and Blum have joined forces alongside original creator Oren Peli via Solana Films. Hollywood giant Paramount will handle worldwide distribution and is attached as co-financier and co-producer on the yet-to-be-titled film.

In a press statement, Wan revealed excitedly, “I’ve been a huge admirer of Paranormal Activity since the brilliant first movie, with its creeping slow burn and subtle ability to make the unseen terrifying. I’m looking forward to expanding on its legacy and helping shape the next evolution of this scary found-footage franchise.”

Wan’s co-partner, Blum, also spoke of his excitement regarding the upcoming collaboration. Blum shared, “Diving in with James for this exciting rebirth of the franchise that started it all for Blumhouse is exactly what we dreamed of when we merged with Atomic Monster. I’ll be actively involved with him to introduce this new chapter.”

Continuing further, he stated, “Thankfully, we’re able to spend a little more than the $15,000 we had on the first movie, but one thing will remain the same – do not see it alone.”

James Wan is one of the most popular horror filmmakers of recent decades. Wan concluded his run with The Conjuring universe with The Conjuring: Last Rites. Patrick Wilson and Vera Farmiga headlined the film as paranormal investigators Ed and Lorraine Warren. The Conjuring: Last Rites grossed a staggering $487 million globally. (via Variety)
