Lizzo Hits Back at Trolls Over Weight Comments

Lizzo is not tolerating any online hate. The singer is speaking up after claiming someone recently made a fat joke about her online, which went viral. She responded to the hate, making it clear she wasn’t going to allow it, while urging others who may be victims of this not to either.

Lizzo has often said that she has been the victim of body shaming because of her weight. In 2020, she said that she had stopped using Twitter because of the hate she was receiving.

It appears as though Lizzo is at her wits’ end with internet haters. On Thursday, she expressed her displeasure after being trolled on social media. While she doesn’t appear happy about the hate, it sounds like she’s doing her best to turn that negative into a positive. “Your body will never be good enough for them because it’s not FOR them,” was her message on Instagram. She proceeded to say when you’re big “they talk sh*t” while adding they also do that when you’re small.

The singer/songwriter has been very candid about her weight and struggles with depression. On her Substack last month, she shared how she previously felt “deeply suicidal” in 2023. This was due to a lawsuit filed against her by three of her former backup dancers. Eventually, she says that she got out of that dark place and began a weight-loss journey. Thanks to her determination, she says that she’s lost 16 percent of her body fat.

In February 2024, a judge rejected Lizzo’s request to dismiss the case against her by backup dancers but dismissed some charges. One of them was a dancer’s claim that Lizzo had fat-shamed them.

Back in June, Lizzo shared the track listing and cover art for her third mixtape, entitled My Face Hurts from Smiling.
