Travis Kelce Admits Struggle as Chiefs’ Playoff Chances Remain Uncertain

The Kansas City Chiefs find themselves in unfamiliar territory, and Travis Kelce addressed the recent playouts and the losses that came with it. After a narrow 31-28 Thanksgiving loss to the Cowboys, the star tight end openly acknowledged the mounting pressure, while insisting the season is still alive.

Travis Kelce opens up about Chiefs’ playoff chances

Travis Kelce addressed the Kansas City Chiefs’ spiraling playoff hopes on the latest episode of his New Heights podcast. Despite the setbacks, he stressed that the Chiefs remain closer to contention than their record suggests.

“I’m sure everyone is sick of us saying it, but we’re a few plays away from being a one seed in my mind,” Kelce said while reflecting on the string of tight losses that have defined their year. Every defeat has come “within one score,” a trend he finds equally “hard” and motivating.

Travis Kelce pointed to specific moments that have cost Kansas City Cheifs’ games: “It’s plays like my drop against the Eagles [in Week 2], it’s penalties that are keeping us behind the sticks, it’s coming away with three points instead of touchdowns in some games… we’re f—ing this close, man, we’re this f—ing close.”

The Chiefs — winners of two of the last three Super Bowls — have dropped three of their past four games, all decided by seven points or fewer. As a result, they currently sit outside the AFC playoff picture, with just five regular-season games remaining. Still, Kelce emphasized that the team is far from done. “We’re holding teams at the right moment, and in other situations, we’re just not scoring enough. It’s tough, man… we’re 6-6, and we’re fighting for our lives, and you know, find a way into the playoffs.”

He reiterated what keeps him locked in, saying, “What’s real is that we still have a chance, baby, and that’s all that f—ing matters to me.”
