Halle Berry caused a stir this week when she came forward claiming that California Governor Gavin Newsom was devaluing women. The comment was made at the New York Times DealBook Summit in New York City.
Halle has become an activist, encouraging more states to pass legislation covering menopause treatments. She also hopes that doctors can be incentivized to take courses about the various stages of the medical transition. She is hopeful that by learning more, they can provide better care. With insurance coverage, women can get this treatment without breaking the bank.
When she was on stage speaking, she had a few harsh words for Gavin. Now, he’s clearing the air.
Gavin Newsom thinks Halle Berry “didn’t know” the full story

When she was on stage speaking, she had a few harsh words for Gavin. Now, he’s clearing the air. During her speaking event, Halle said, “Back in my great state of California, my very own governor, Gavin Newsom, has vetoed our menopause bill, not one but two years in a row. But that’s OK, because he’s not going to be governor forever,” reports ABC News. “And with the way he’s overlooked women, half the population, by devaluing us in midlife, he probably should not be our next president either, just saying.”
After hearing this, Gavin made sure to issue a statement. “We have the ability to reconcile that, so we’re reconciling. I’ve included it in next year’s budget,” he told a reporter, per PEOPLE. “She didn’t know that.” He continued, “We already were in the process of fixing it.”
The California governor contacted the actress’ manager, and he was able to clear up the confusion. The budget has been modified to include the appropriate funding in 2026.
