Jason Kelce Was ‘Overcome With Grief’ After Kylie’s Pregnancy Loss

In a moment that touched many, Jason Kelce opened up about dealing with a pregnancy loss with his wife, Kylie Kelce, as he spoke from the heart this week while accepting an award at the March of Dimes luncheon in New York City. The topic is something he and Kylie rarely discuss in public. However, he did not soften the blow, explaining exactly what it was like when they lost their little one in 2018, before their first daughter was born.

PEOPLE reported that during his speech, Jason Kelce did not try to polish the memory of his and Kylie’s pregnancy loss. He explained exactly how it felt in the moment. Kelce recalled, “I remember going out to my truck in the middle of practice and meetings, overcome with grief and emotion.”

Kylie had already mentioned on her podcast that she learned about the loss on November 5 that year, which also happened to be Jason’s birthday. Jason revealed he did not realize how many people around him had been through the same type of loss until he started talking about it with teammates and staff, noting, “You really find out how prevalent this actually is.”

He added that most people never speak about their experiences, but hearing others open up helped him feel less alone. Moreover, the former NFL star mentioned how much the support meant to both him and Kylie. He called it “hugely impactful” to have people reach out and share their own stories during a time when they were trying to process everything.

Before ending his speech, he thanked everyone who works with or supports the March of Dimes, saying, “This is family. This is kids, this is babies.” He also reminded the room why the organization’s work matters to so many parents.

Jason and Kylie Kelce now share four daughters — Wyatt, Elliotte, Bennett, and baby Finn. He clarified that the loss they experienced still sits with them. Opening up about it publicly would not have been easy, but it felt like an attempt on Jason and Kylie’s part to make other families feel less isolated in their grief.
