Leonardo DiCaprio Clears the Air on Boogie Nights ‘Biggest Regret’ Comment

Leonardo DiCaprio recently opened up about his latest hit, One Battle After Another, and reflected on finally getting the chance to work with Paul Thomas Anderson on this film. He also revealed that they almost collaborated in the past and addressed whether he regrets picking Titanic over Thomas Anderson’s Boogie Nights.

Leonardo DiCaprio on whether he has any regrets about choosing Titanic over Boogie Nights

In a recent interview, Deadline noted how Leonardo DiCaprio previously mentioned that not doing Boogie Nights with Paul Thomas Anderson was his biggest regret. However, when asked how he felt about choosing Titanic over Boogie Nights, DiCaprio clarified his previous answer. “Well, I think that was my answer to a question in the guise of speaking to Paul, and, without getting too personal about my own life, the question was, ‘What do you regret most?'” he explained.

“We were sitting here talking about movies. It came from the standpoint of just being a fan of his work for so long,” DiCaprio added. Further, the Titanic actor remarked, “Boogie Nights was the launching pad for a new artist. So, it’s less about that specific film and more about wanting to have worked with Paul.”

The interviewer then went on to ask whether he had any regrets about choosing Titanic. DiCaprio explained how choosing Titanic led to a full circle moment, saying, “No regrets. I mean, fully now in retrospect, I look back at that film and realize the thanks and the appreciation that I have for being a part of it,” while also explaining how it enabled him to be the “conductor” of his own choices.

“The dilemma for me at that point was, of course, I would’ve loved to have done both movies, but it just couldn’t happen at that moment,” he added. Then, referring to his collaboration with Thomas Anderson on One Battle After Another, DiCaprio said, “And then, here we are, all these years later, and it’s this great sort of reconnection. We’ve gone on these paths together, and then to come back around and be able to collaborate with Paul on this is just amazing.”
