Kaitlan Collins has a friend in Jake Tapper. The lead Washington anchor for CNN is speaking out in support of Kaitlan, who was thrashed mercilessly by Donald Trump. The US President didn’t take kindly to her question about why the White House ballroom was costing more money than originally thought. That set off a tirade of insults from Donald online.
Jake is defending the former CNN anchor, her question, and her credibility. Kaitlan is the former co-anchor of CNN This Morning. She’s previously served as a White House correspondent for The Daily Caller. She’s resumed her role as White House chief correspondent for CNN since Donald began his second term as President.
Donald Trump is making a habit out of attacking female reporters

This latest attack on a female reporter is becoming like just another day at the office for the President. On his Truth Social, he called “Caitlan” of “Fake News CNN, always Stupid and Nasty.”
Jake had no problem giving a rebuttal to the President for the attack. On his X account, he firstly corrected the President on the spelling of her name, which is Kaitlan. He proceeded to call her “smart” and “nice” while adding that her question about the White House cost is legitimate, given the project’s controversy.
The President’s response to the higher cost was that it’s because the room will double in size, with finishes and interiors at the highest levels. He says that it’s being paid for by private donations. Last week, it was reported that a new architect had been hired to lead the project.
Donald was previously asked by reporter Catherine Lucey about releasing the Jeffrey Epstein files, with the President responding, “quiet piggy.”
His feud with Kaitlan seemed to stem from the 2026 FIFA World Cup draw in Washington, D.C., last Friday. The President received a special peace prize onstage from Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum and Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney.
Before he received his medal, she asked him whether it might conflict with his pledge to strike Venezuela. He responded by saying he’d ended eight wars and that a ninth was upcoming. Last week, Donald said that strikes on land by the military would start very soon in countries like Venezuela. Donald suspects they are making drugs destined for the US.
