Dame Judi Dench has given a controversial opinion on Harvey Weinstein, admitting she thinks he should be released from prison early. The disgraced Hollywood film producer, tied to movies including Pulp Fiction and Django Unchained, is currently serving a 16-year prison sentence for a 2022 conviction of rape and sexual assault.

Speaking to Radio Times, 91-year-old Judi reflected on her friendship with Harvey and his time in prison.
“I knew Harvey, I knew him well and worked with him,” she said. “I had none of that experience,” Judi added of the numerous sexual assault accusations directed at Harvey. “Very fortunately for me,” she added, offering empathy for his victims who spoke out during the #MeToo movement.
That said, Judi thinks Harvey has “done his time,” and referred to a clip of him walking with “two sticks.”
“I don’t know, to me it’s personal,” Judi went on, pointing out her desire for “forgiveness.”
After that, Harvey gave a statement from prison to TMZ in light of Judi’s comments. “I’ve now spent more than six and a half years incarcerated, including a year and a half in Rikers, which could be considered double time,” he said.
“I am grateful for the kind words that have been expressed,” Harvey went on, nodding to Judi’s words. “She is an extraordinary person who played an important role in my career.”
Elsewhere in her Radio Times interview, Judi spoke of another friend. Kevin Spacey was similarly hit with sexual assault allegations, but was acquitted of all charges in a UK criminal trial. “Kevin has been exonerated, and I hear from Kevin,” Judi said, adding that they “text” each other.
