The freedom of a game show champion could literally be in jeopardy. Philip Joseph “Joey” DeSena won $46,698 during his first appearances on the syndicated game show Jeopardy! Last year. He wound up winning two games in his original appearance on the show, famous for giving you answers in the form of a question.
He returned to the program in 2025 to compete for a spot in the Tournament of Champions. Unfortunately, Joey lost in the semi-finals of the Champions Wildcard tournament. Now the man from North Carolina is in trouble with the law after allegedly installing secret cameras in someone’s bedroom and bathroom.
Jeopardy champ Philip Joseph “Joey” DeSena is arrested on felony secret peeping charges
Joey may soon have to use his game show winnings for legal fees. That’s because WNCN TV in Raleigh, North Carolina, reports of his arrest Monday on two felony charges. He allegedly had a camera in a victim’s bedroom and bathroom on October 10. Court records indicate the Jeopardy! champion is facing two counts of felony secret peeping.
Along with appearing on the famed game show, Joey ran a YouTube channel called ClanOfTheGrayWolf under the name Roo.
These allegations could be another black eye for the long-running game show. In July, there were rumours that contestant Scott Riccardi intentionally lost his game ending a 16-game winning streak. He got stumped by the Final Jeopardy category, 20th-century names.
In 2014, Jerry Slowik didn’t get an invite to compete on the Jeopardy! Tournament of Champions after allegations of sexual assault. He had won five games on the show, which normally is enough to earn you a place in the Tournament of Champions.
Joey is due to appear in court on Wednesday.
