Scarlett Johansson & Colin Jost’s Family Wasn’t a Fan of Son’s Name

Scarlett Johansson recently appeared on “Jenna and Friends” and spoke about how her mom and mother-in-law reacted to her son’s name. The actor is mother to a 4-year-old son, Cosmo, with husband Colin Jost. She also has a daughter, Rose Dorothy Dauriac, 11, with her ex-husband Romain Dauriac.

Scarlett Johansson opens up about her and Colin Jost’s family not liking their son’s name

Scarlett Johansson recently guest co-hosted “Today with Jenna & Friends” on December 4. On the show, she revealed how her parents and in-laws reacted to her toddler’s unlikely name, Cosmo. While revealing the detail, the 41-year-old actor said that while her mom was happy with the name, her mother-in-law was not very enthusiastic about their choice.

“When we named our son Cosmo, I actually didn’t tell anybody for that very reason. I didn’t want any of the weird faces. You know, when you tell someone they go like this, ‘Oh that’s, that’s different,’” said Johansson, as per Huff Post. “You know when they do that, and you’re like, ‘What’s happening? You don’t like it?’”

She then confessed that her mom “loved” the name and it “was great.” “She was like, ‘Oh, I had a, you know, I had like a…my third grade crush was Cosmo,'” she continued. “It had a great meaning for her.” However, Johansson said her mother-in-law was not very happy with the name that she and Jost picked for their son.

“My mother-in-law was like, a few days after she goes, ‘Cosimo is a name I can find. That’s a recognizable name,'” she recalled on the show. “And I was like, ‘We’re not going to just insert an ‘I.’ That’s what it is.’” The “Avengers” star even suggested, “Unless you like a name, you probably shouldn’t say anything about it. Nobody asked. It does not affect your life at all.”

Hearing her story, even the host, Bush Hager, shared a similar experience where her mom, Laura Bush, suggested changing the spelling of her daughter’s name as it was being pronounced differently in Texas.
