His political views polarized people and some didn’t hold back their opinions about Charlie even after his death. Amanda called him “hateful” on Instagram the day after the tragedy. Months later, she continues to back what she claimed. “I said something that was based on actual reality and actual footage and actual quotes,” she told Who What Wear.
She clarified her stance on the controversial online comment about him. Amanda noted that she can get angry about misogyny and racist rhetoric while also believing Charlie’s death was disturbing. She added that the country is grieving too many violent and senseless deaths. According to her, they should be having a spirited discourse rather than a vicious back-and-forth online.
Amanda is far from the only celebrity who faced some controversy following the assassination. Jimmy Kimmel was temporarily suspended by ABC for sharing a controversial viewpoint on Charlie. Meanwhile, Kristin Chenoweth faced some backlash for expressing how upset she was over his death.
Charlie’s widow, Erika, has said she doesn’t need an apology from the likes of Jimmy for what they said, despite Vice President JD Vance believing he should say sorry. For her part, Erika has forgiven the man arrested in connection with her husband’s shooting.
