Jennifer Lopez and Cameron Diaz may soon unite for what insiders describe as a major, career-defining project, with some in the industry already calling them Hollywood’s next power couple. According to sources, the longtime friends who first bonded in the ’90s and later worked together on the 2012 ensemble film What to Expect When You’re Expecting are now in active discussions about teaming up again. Following Lopez’s recent Golden Globes snub, Diaz, 53, is reportedly stepping in with support and encouragement, pushing for the pair to launch a new venture.
Jennifer Lopez and Cameron Diaz teaming up for high-profile project, claims source
“J.Lo has a special relationship with Diaz going back to the ’90s,” one insider shared to RadarOnline.com. “Now they’re having real discussions about making something else together after the unexpectedly positive experience they had on What to Expect When You’re Expecting more than 10 years ago.” The actresses praised their 2012 rom-com during an appearance on The Ellen DeGeneres Show and have maintained their friendship ever since, sources said.
Sources close to the actresses say they’re inspired by the massive success of The Morning Show, the award-winning Apple TV+ drama starring Jennifer Aniston and Reese Witherspoon. “Why can’t they be the next Jennifer and Reese?” an insider explained. “They both have mastered the streaming space, but teaming up is a force multiplier that fulfills a promise they made to audiences in the ’90s when they both broke out right at the same time. They see it as a duty, to their fans and to themselves.”
According to insiders, Lopez, 56, and Diaz are actively reviewing scripts and exploring concepts suited for them as co-leads. “Cam and Jen are looking for scripts to star in together, and they know they can do something way bigger than Expecting,” the insider said. “Plus, they just work great together onscreen, and everybody wants to see more of them together.”
Diaz rose to fame with comedies like The Mask, My Best Friend’s Wedding, and There’s Something About Mary, solidifying her status with franchises such as Charlie’s Angels and Shrek, while Lopez made her mark with standout roles in Selena and Out of Sight before becoming a global music star and making history in 2001 as the first entertainer to top the box office with The Wedding Planner and simultaneously debut a No. 1 album.
