What would you do if your 21-year-old daughter started dating a 65-year-old man? Would you try to intervene, or would you just let nature run its course? If you’re Kimora Lee Simmons, you’ll do the latter. Her daughter, Aoki Lee Simmons, dated a senior citizen last year, and Kimora sat back and let it happen.
Aoki Lee briefly dated a much older man
Last year, when Aoki was 21, she dated a 65-year-old restaurateur named Vittorio Assaf. What did they have in common? Probably nothing good, but according to People, they met in St. Barths.
Four days after going public with their romance, they called it quits. At the time, an insider suggested that her family felt concerned. Kimora, who just returned to reality TV, is finally opening up about all of it. Her reaction is all over the place.
During a recent appearance on the Not Skinny But Not Fat Podcast, Kimora admitted that the massive age-gap relationship seemed “predatorial and kinda crazy.” However, she let it happen and didn’t intervene because she wanted her daughter to make her own mistakes.
“I let my kids make their own mistakes, like I said. That’s the whole thing we were saying about living out your life in public, and I think that’s very, very, very tough,” Kimora said. “I don’t even think that was a moment for them, though. Or I should say the opposite. I think it was just that — a moment. I don’t think it was anything else.”
The word salad continued. According to Kimora, she was familiar with Vittorio before he started dating Aoki. It sounds like maybe he has a type.
Kimora said, “I know this guy growing up myself. He’s a restaurateur. I don’t know, I don’t want to get into troubles legally but I think his reputation probably precedes him. Is that okay to say legally?”
With that said, Kimora said it was “shocking” to learn he was dating Aoki, but she didn’t want to be an overbearing parent. She stayed quiet while Aoki tested the waters with the man 44 years her senior, but deep down, she knew something was off about the relationship.
“It was a lot. But I do think in general, of those kinds of things, I feel like and having gone through not exactly the same but similar…that big age gap relationship, let’s just call it that. I do think it’s predatory,” Kimora finally admitted.
“We said all of that to get to what Kimora thinks about it,” she added. “I think that’s predatorial and kinda crazy.”
