Josh Hutcherson confessed he is not a fan of Taylor Swift, which struck a nerve with Swifties, as he had previously attended her blockbuster Eras Tour. However, some people are also defending the actor’s honesty.
Taylor Swift fans upset with Josh Hutcherson’s recent comments
During a segment for i-D Magazine, Hutcherson scrolled through his phone while searching for photos that matched given keywords. When prompted with the word “club,” he revealed that he didn’t have any club photos at all. Instead, he showed a picture of himself and his mother from the VIP section at Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour.
“The only one I have in a club is like this picture that’s literally me and my mom at a Taylor Swift show,” he explained, holding up the photo. His I Love LA co-star Jordan Firstman, who joined him for the segment, teased him before asking the now-viral question: “Are you a Swiftie?” Hutcherson replied, “I’m not a Swiftie. Very much not.” “No shade, all respect, but definitely not.” He added that he only went “because my mom made me.”
Those comments immediately set off strong reactions from Taylor Swift fans, many of whom felt frustrated that Josh Hutcherson had enjoyed access to coveted VIP seats despite not being a fan. One of the Swifties wrote on X that he attended the show “just for some attention then, since he’s not getting it from his roles.” Others accused him of benefiting from the tour’s popularity while looking down on her fanbase, calling it “two-faced.”
But not everyone was upset. Many online defended the actor, pointing out that he never insulted Swift herself. As one wrote, “Josh hutcherson got swifties mad cause he said he isn’t a fan and they are acting like he said he wants to blow her house up.” Another added, “swifties being mad at josh hutcherson for not liking taylor swift is exactly why nobody likes y’all.”
With the Eras Tour concert recording debuting this week, Swifties remain divided over Hutcherson’s honesty.
