Maurice DuBois’ CBS Evening News Replacement Revealed; Praised by Ultra-Conservative Boss

The new anchor of the CBS Evening News should have no trouble fitting into his new role. Tony Dokoupil has been tapped to take over for Maurice DuBois in that role, with the Emmy Award winner announcing his departure earlier this month.

Tony’s old school journalistic ways are expected to make him an ideal fit for this new job. The network’s Editor-in-Chief, Bari Weiss, considered an ultra-conservative, has full confidence in his abilities, saying he’s the man who will restore the media’s trust.

Following in the footsteps of someone with the accolades of Maurice is no easy task. That said, Bari thinks Tony’s style and trustworthiness will be something CBS audiences will fall in love with. “That’s because he believes in old-school journalistic values: asking the hard questions,” said Bari.

While she believes it’s the right move for the network, others believe Bari had no options left. “After being turned down by everyone and their mother, Bari had nowhere else to go but tap Tony Dokoupil,” a source told RadarOnline. His appointment came as no surprise to many who speculated he’d been a favorite of Bari’s for some time. Tony has hosted CBS Mornings since 2019.

Tony says the strength of the nation is that they benefit from fair reporting and open discussions of all ideas. He will have plenty of experienced help as he transitions into this role. CBS also announced this week the appointment of Matt Gutman. Together, he and Tony have over three decades of journalism experience, many of which was on television. Matt will be contributing to CBS Morning, the CBS Evening News, and 60 Minutes, among others.

According to insiders, Maurice was recently informed that he was not in the future of the CBS Evening News. Apparently, though, the idea was not to announce this change until the New Year.
