Jeremy Allen White on doing a rom-com
During their conversation on Variety’s Actors on Actors, Jeremy Allen White and Kate Hudson sat down discussing their latest films, their acting journeys, and shared relevant anecdotes and experiences. As they dived into the topic of rom-coms, discussing how they are a game-changer, Hudson asked Allen White whether he would consider doing a rom-com after he is done with The Bear. “I’d love to. I’ve never done one before, but they seem so fun,” White shared, before Hudson mentioned, “They’re harder than you think.”
Furthermore, as Hudson explained, “I think it’s more frustrating,” she said, “The rules are different. You want to make it for the people showing up to see it. They want something out of it, too. They want to feel, to laugh.” White then remarked, “I worry about finding the right character, because I’d want it to be a classic rom-com. Not a flash in the pan, but When Harry Met Sally.”
Hudson also continued to explain to White how working in a rom-com comes with a cost. “Because once I think you get successful in rom-coms, everybody wants to see you in the rom-com. So, they get real excited, they’re like, ‘Great, okay. Next rom-com,'” she said. “And you’re like, ‘Well, wait a minute. I have other things I wanna do… as an actor.’ But the reward is pretty amazing.”
Most recently, Jeremy Allen White played the role of Bruce Springsteen in Springsteen: Deliver Me from Nowhere, which came out on October 24, 2025. As for Hudson, she stars opposite Hugh Jackman in the upcoming musical drama Song Sung Blue, out on December 25, 2025.
