Taylor Swift Surprises Fans by Changing Lyrics on Reputation Album Songs

Taylor Swift may own her music now, but she’s still doing new takes on her classic albums.

Taylor’s sixth studio album, Reputation, released in 2017, has always been a fan favorite among Swifties. However, the electropop album was never one of Taylor’s re-releases. Taylor’s re-releases were created in response to music mogul Scooter Braun purchasing Taylor’s masters in June 2019. These re-recordings, named “Taylor’s Version,” featured some lyric changes, as well as unreleased bonus tracks.

The Apple Music version of Reputation has recently been updated to Dolby Atmos sound on the streaming service. Dedicated listeners quickly noticed that two songs have some new lyrical tweaks.

For example, “I Did Something Bad” has reflected a slight new shift in attitude since the original recording nearly ten years ago.

The original read: “If a man talks sh*t, then I owe him nothin’ / I don’t regret it one bit ’cause he had it comin’.”

Now, Taylor’s song features the lyrics, If a man talks sh*t, then I owe him nothin’ / If he calls me a bitch then he had it coming.”

Another edit includes the lyrics in Delicate. These went from “Oh, damn, never seen that color blue,” to “Goddamn, never seen that color blue“. The latter is more trivial, but the former likely refers to the feud between Taylor and the former couple, Kim Kardashian and Kanye West. Swifties will remember the inciting incident ignited the feud that kickstarted the Reputation era.

Back in 2016, Kim posted an edited version of a phone conversation between Taylor and Kanye. In the video, Taylor seemingly signed off on her inclusion on Kanye’s controversial track, Famous. The popstar later clarified she did not learn of Kanye’s referral to Taylor as a “b*tch” before its release. In fact, the footage released by Kim had been edited to imply her consent to the use of the slur.
