Good news for fans of a certain outspoken radio DJ – there’s no danger of him leaving the airwaves anytime soon. In an announcement on his Tuesday morning show, Howard Stern said he’s signed a new contract with SiriusXM. The news comes after months of speculation that he may be dropped by the company.
Howard Stern is not leaving SiriusXM, and has extended his contract for three years
During his show on Tuesday, Howard revealed he’s signed a new contract with the radio channel, with a term of three years. He said: “I’m happy to announce that I’ve figured out a way to have it all. More free time, and continuing to be on the radio. So yes, we are coming back for three years.”
There’s been a host of speculation recently that the controversial DJ may be dumped by SiriusXM amid reports of dwindling listener numbers. Some sources suggested that the rumors were actually a “desperate hoax” by the shock jock in a bid to create a buzz before his return to the show.
To be fair, Howard himself did seemingly play into those rumors when he hyped up an announcement on an upcoming radio show – only to prank listeners by having Andy Cohen tell fans he’d been fired.
Whatever the case, Howard’s back on the airwaves for now. The details of his new contract aren’t exactly clear (his previous five-year deal was worth around $100 million per year). But he has said it’ll give him “more flexibility,” perhaps suggesting he won’t be on the air as much.
Howard seems pretty happy with the new signing, though. He gushed: “I love this company. I truly do. I feel very loyal to this company. They did want me to come back, and they said, whatever you want to do, we’ll do for you. Who says that to anybody? When does your boss say that?”
