A memorable moment in Simu Liu’s life was made extra special thanks to a music legend. The Marvel actor who plays Shang-Chi in action films called on Taylor Swift before making a lifelong commitment to his girlfriend Allison Hsu.
He reached out to her publicist, asking her to send a short congratulations video for him and Allison. The pop star obliged, making the Canadian’s marriage proposal a memorable one.

Taylor’s songs were a big part of Simu and Allison’s relationship in the early days. On The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon, the actor said that his girlfriend “grew up a Swiftie.” Therefore, when he decided he wanted to propose, he hoped Taylor could make a short video.
Fortunately for Simu, not only did Allison say yes, but he also earned extra points from his now-fiancée for the video. He adds that he was getting to know Allison through songs and why they meant so much to her. Adding a message from Taylor to celebrate the occasion was something he believed would make the occasion that much more special.
Simu popped the question on a rooftop in Paris with a view of the Eiffel Tower. The surprises didn’t stop there as the actor also flew down several of Allison’s friends and family. Her brother, who lives in Chicago, and her sister, who resides in Kenya, made it to the French capital to celebrate.
He says that she was super emotional during the proposal, and according to him, she lost it when seeing Taylor’s message. Their engagement was officially revealed on Simu’s Instagram in May.
Simu has not only been busy acting but also doing side projects. He was at a Costco in California last month giving out samples of MíLá soup dumplings. He’s the food company’s chief content officer.
