Jason Kelce Addresses Travis Kelce’s NFL Future After Chiefs’ Loss

Jason Kelce recently weighed in on his brother, Travis Kelce’s, plans for retirement. As Travis’ contract expires after the 2025 NFL season, Jason says that “stepping away for a little bit” from the games could help his brother make the right decision.

Jason Kelce talks about Travis Kelce retirement

During the Monday Night Football pre-show, Jason Kelce shared some advice on how his brother should handle the decision to retire from the sport.

“In my opinion, to nail that decision, you gotta step away from the game for a little bit,”  the former Philadelphia Eagles star advised. “Play these last three games, enjoy them with your teammates, enjoy them with your coaches. You know, the team’s going to be different no matter whether you come back or not next year. So, enjoy these last three games. And let it sink in. It will come with time,” he added.

The former Super Bowl champion then went on to explain how the games impact players on an emotional level. He said, “There’s so many emotions in this game right after a season. Especially the way this one’s been, it’s been so up and down… they’ve been close, and right now, it’s just too fresh. You gotta step away from it. You gotta think about it. And then, yeah, it’ll come to you.”

On Sunday, December 14, the Kansas City Chiefs narrowly lost to the Los Angeles Chargers, ending the match with 13-16. However, news about Travis’s retirement had been circulating on the internet long before the season started. This is mainly because his two-year $34.25 million contract with the Kansas City Chiefs will expire after the season.

Travis has previously spoken about his retirement plans. During a press conference in November, he said, “The season kind of restarts in April. I want to give the Chiefs a good opportunity, whether I come back or not, and vice versa, and whether they want me back or not.”

He continued, “It’s one of those things where I’d like to make that decision before they gotta draft picks and free agency opens and give them an opportunity to go out there and fill the roster appropriately. All of that will be after the season. I won’t be thinking about it until then.”
