Apple Martin Rewears Gwyneth Paltrow’s Dress Held up by Single String

Apple Martin channeled Gwyneth Paltrow by wearing a Calvin Klein dress that her mother wore almost three decades ago. Martin joined Paltrow on the red carpet at the New York premiere of her new A24 film Marty Supreme on December 16. While the mother-daughter duo coordinated in matching black outfits, Martin stole the spotlight by bringing back the iconic dress held up by a single string.

For her latest red carpet appearance, Apple Martin raided her mother, Gwyneth Paltrow’s, closet and pulled out a form-fitting maxi dress from Calvin Klein. Paltrow had originally worn the dress in July 1996 for the New York premiere of Emma, a Jane Austen-inspired period film directed by Douglas McGrath.

The dress was a black halter-neck gown with a deep scoop neckline. A single string around the neck held up the dress and left the arms and shoulders bare, giving it an elegant silhouette. The fluid fabric skimmed the body as it fell into a straight, floor-length skirt. The lack of decorative details made the vintage outfit look surprisingly modern with just a body-contouring fit.

Martin also styled the look like her mother when she wore it 29 years ago. The 21-year-old wore her blonde hair in a loose updo and diamond stud earrings. However, instead of going for vampy ’90s glam similar to Paltrow’s, she kept her makeup natural with just soft blush and a nude lip.

Meanwhile, the Iron Man star also wore a black gown with a boat neckline. It was sleeveless and featured an oversized bow at one shoulder. The velvet bodice of the dress fell into a black sheath skirt with a thigh-high slit.

Moses Martin, Paltrow’s second child with ex-husband Chris Martin, also joined Apple Martin at the Marty Supreme premiere. He wore a gray blazer over a blue shirt and paired it with white trousers. A striped tie and brown sneakers completed the look.
