Macaulay Culkin told Wired, “I’ve never had a driver’s license before in my entire life.” He added that he once blamed the choice on life in New York. “I originally chalked it up to me being a New Yorker, and that’s kind of what New Yorkers do,” he said.
He also described a pact he and fiancée Brenda Song made as a New Year’s resolution. The Home Alone actor said, “Brenda and I, we had this agreement. We don’t make New Year’s resolutions ever. And we made a New Year’s resolution: I was gonna get my driver’s license, and she was gonna hire a wedding planner. We’re not married. And yeah, I still don’t drive, so.”
The actor’s partner has weighed in on his driving attempts. Song said on The Jennifer Hudson Show that she once took Culkin out to practice in their neighborhood and found it nerve-wracking. She said, “I took him out to drive in our neighborhood—I was terrified.” The public comment supports Culkin’s own account, which suggests that he has not made driving a part of his daily life.
Outside of the driving topic, he also shared other personal details in interviews this year, including family life: his sons, Dakota and Carson, do not yet connect him to his early screen role. “They have no idea it’s me. They watch Home Alone, and they go, ‘That’s Kevin,’” he told the On Film…With the Kevin McCarthy podcast.
