Selena Gomez Clears the Air About Her ‘Mustache’

Selena Gomez recently revealed how she couldn’t stop herself from cracking up when one of her fans asked her about her “mustache” shaving routine. While lots of women around the world suffer from Hirsutism (the medical condition where women start developing male-pattern hair on various parts of their bodies, including the face), Gomez’s comments mentioned that she doesn’t have the disease. The “Calm Down” singer also disclosed the real reason why fans mistook her for having a mustache.

Selena Gomez talks about melasma when asked about face shaving routine

Gomez made a video addressing her fans’ questions about her mustache shaving routine during her real face care sessions. The 33-year-old mentioned that she realizes why fans might think that she gets mustaches on her face.

Subsequently, she revealed the primary reason behind this illusion, saying, “It’s my melasma.” Melasma is a minor skin disease where the affected person develops brown or grey-brown patches, usually on the face, due to excessive exposure to the sun. There can also be several other factors behind a person sustaining the condition, such as overstressing, hormonal changes, genetics, and much more.

Such patches over Gomez’s lip at some point made fans mistake her for having a mustache. However, melasma isn’t the only factor that created such an unwanted illusion about the singer. In her story, Gomez also highlighted that she has developed a pimple just under her nostril, which facilitated the creation of the unwanted illusion.

“I actually have melasma, you guys, and a pimple. It’s from the sun, so obviously wear sunscreen,” said Gomez. “It’s actually not [a mustache]. It’s my melasma. I take care of it and treat it, but yeah, it’s there.”

Gomez has also been troubled by acne on multiple occasions besides melasma. As a result, she keeps skincare at the top of her priority list. She also believes that taking care of her skin enhances the capacity of her mind and soul (via People).
