Angelina Jolie’s Bodyguard ‘Snatched by Military Recruiters’ in Ukraine

Angelina Jolie roamed around war-torn Ukraine without much protection. That’s because the Academy Award winner had her bodyguard seized by officials in the Eastern European country during her recent visit.

The actress’ bodyguard was reportedly taken to an enlistment center after failing to produce proper military registration documents. Despite this, her motorcade continued on without the muscle protecting her for more photo ops. The incident took place in the Ukrainian city of Mykolaiv. The driver and bodyguard was reportedly seized to fight invading Russian forces.

Known for her countless humanitarian efforts, Angelina’s reputation may have suffered a hit. One critic told RadarOnline that Angelina’s presence in the city was actually bad for the Ukrainian people.

Her driver and bodyguard Dmytro Pyschchikov had, according to a sibling, undergone military training at Ukraine’s flight academy a decade ago. Angelina’s protection allegedly stated that he never served in the army due to back problems. Sources, however, claim that he was deemed fit enough to serve in non-combat roles like communications, security or training positions.

There are unconfirmed reports that Angelina called Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky to try to secure the release of Dmytro. That said, the Ukrainian Ground Forces Command says she has not interfered with the work of the draft officials.

The actress’ visit was backed by the Legacy of War Foundation. They say that she toured medical and educational facilities in the Ukrainian city. During her time there, she reportedly spoke to volunteers and civilians. Critics say that her presence may have done more harm than good. “She (Angelina) called attention to key military positions and got a man impressed into military service,” claimed one source.”

Angelina previously served as a Goodwill Ambassador for the United Nations Refugee Agency from 2001 to 2012. In October, she and her ex-husband Brad Pitt were said to be in an intense feud. A divorce settlement between the two was reached last year.
